Dr. Jonathan Campbell is a saxophonist, composer, and educator whose creative voice moves fluidly between performance, composition, and collaboration. Rooted in jazz tradition yet oriented toward contemporary expression, his work spans over two decades of artistic development and teaching.

As a performer, Jonathan has developed a unique saxophone sound and improvisational style and has shared the stage with leading voices in modern jazz, including Brian Lynch, Geoff Keezer, Terell Stafford, Jon Faddis, and Ingrid Jensen. His two most recent albums as a bandleader feature nationally recognized trumpet players Clay Jenkins (Northtet, 2018) and Dave Douglas (Singularity, 2022), further expanding his presence as both a composer, improviser, and collaborator.

As a composer, Jonathan has created hundreds of original compositions for jazz ensembles, as well as works for TV, film, and orchestral projects. His compositional style is defined by distinctive melodies that are both memorable and sophisticated, winding through multiple genres. His work often unfolds strong narrative arcs, shaped by a cinematic sense of storytelling. His music has been commissioned by high schools and universities nationwide, where he is regularly invited to appear as a guest artist and clinician.

Jonathan holds a Doctor of Arts in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master of Music in Composition from Central Washington University. He currently lives with his family in the Pacific Northwest and is often found spending time outdoors, when not teaching or immersed in music projects.
